نرم افزار LABVIEW تحولی اساسی و نوین در شیوه های زبانهای برنامه نویسی ایجاد کرده است. برنامه نویسان labview بدون نوشتن هیچ کدی برنامه های قدرتمند ی را تنها با ابزارهای گرافیکی موجود در برنامه ایجاد می کنند. Labview در واقع ابزار یک میزکار (Workbench) مهندسی است که حالت پیشرفته یک زبان برنامه نویسی گرافیکی است و زمان زیادی از تولد آن نمیگذرد .
Base برنامه نویسی مطابق با اصطلاحات مهندسی بنا شده است و به همین دلیل کار کردن با آن بسیار راحت است و این قدرت را به فرد می دهد که ایده ذهنی خود را بدون درگیر شدن با اصول و کلمات برنامه نویسی مبتنی بر متن پیاده سازی کند و نتیجه آنرا تحلیل نماید .
این زبان به طور کامل برای ارتباط با سخت افزارهایی مانند: GPIB ، VxI ، RS232 ، RS485 ,Infrared , Bluetooth میباشد . در مقام مقایسه می توان نحوه برنامه نویسی Labview را با بخش Simulink نرم افزار Matlab مقایسه کرد. اما تفاوت در راحتی کار با Icon ها و ارتباط با محیط خارج از رایانه میباشد.Labview بر خلاف تصور افرادی که آن را یک نرم افزار مهندسی می دانند . یک زبان برنامه نویسی کامل است و می توان منطق برنامه نویسی و سرعت آنرا با زبانهای مانند C یا Pastal مقایسه کرد، هر چند ریتم برنامه نویسی آن به کلی با ریتم زبانهای مبتنی بر متن فرق دارد و به طور عادی در برنامه نویسی با Labview انگشتان دست Keyboard را لمس نخواهد کرد! و تنها از موس استفاده میشود ( مگر برای استفاد ه از Shortkeyها).
