Scientists have suggested that metal earrings and tooth fillings are one of the principle causes of chronic muscular and back pain.

According to a report released by chiropractor Simon King, even the smallest bits of metal, which pierce or even just touch the skin, can cause whole body stress leading to pain and arthritis.

King believes that metal objects irritate nerve endings; in response, the nervous system moves body parts away from them, resulting in muscular strain and recurrent pain.

The report states that while lower back pain is linked to metal dentistry and jewelry such as necklaces and watches, earrings are a common cause of back and neck pain.

King suggests removing the source of stimulation or irritation (jewelry) or replacing a metal filling with an acrylic one to alleviate long-term agony.
