Whitebridge was a small village, and old people often came and lived there. Some of them had a lot of old furniture, and they often did not want some of it, because they were in a smaller house now, so every Saturday morning they put it out, and other people came and looked at it, and sometimes they took it away because they wanted it .

Every Saturday, Mr and Mrs Morton put a very ugly old bear's head out at the side of their gate, but nobody wanted it. Then last Saturday, they wrote, 'I'm very lonely here. Please take me,' on a piece of paper and put it near the bear's head.

They went to the town, and came home in the evening.

There were now two bears' heads in front of their house, and there was another piece of paper. It said, 'I was lonely too.'

وايت بريج يك روستاي كوچك بود، و سالمندان اكثرا مي‌آمدند و در آنجا زندگي مي‌كردند. بعضي از آن‌ها مقدار زيادي وسايل قديمي داشتند، و بعضي از آن‌ها را نمي‌خواستند، براي اينكه حالا در خانه‌ي كوچكتري بودند، بنابراين هر شنبه صبح آن وسايل را بيرون مي‌گذاشتند، و ديگران مي‌آمدند و آن ها را نگاه مي‌كردند و بعضي از وقت‌ها اون چيزي را كه مي‌خواستند برمي‌داشتند.

هر شنبه، آقا و خانم مورتون يك سر خرس (عروسكي) كه خيلي زشت بود را در يك طرف دروازه مي‌گذاشتند، اما كسي اونو نمي‌خواست. بنابراين شنبه‌ي گذشته، روي يك تكه كاغذ نوشتند «من اينجا خيلي تنها هستم. لطفاً مرا بگيريد» و آن را نزديك سر خرس گذاشتند.

آن ‌ها به شهر رفتند، و عصر به خانه برگشتند.

حالا دو تا سر خرس (عروسكي) در جلو خانه وجود داشت، و همچنين يك تكه كاغذ ديگه كه بر روي نوشته بود، «من هم تنها بودم»
