Ants are related to BEES and WASPS. They, too, usually live in large nests. Army and driver ants do not have a nest but wander through the countryside. They live only in warmer countries.
Ants fly only when the queens and males leave the nest to mate and start new nests. When the queens land, they tear off their wings, disappear into crevices, and start to lay eggs. These eggs produce worker ants, which then start to build the nest.
The workers have a language of smells. If one worker finds food, it lays a trail of scent for others to follow. The ants also 'tell' each other about the food they have found by rubbing their ANTENNAE together. The army and driver ants eat nothing but animal matter, but most ants eat animal and plant material. A few only eat SEEDS.
